Amber goes green for wedding

IT IS no secret that supermodel Amber Chia is now happily married to businessman Adrian Wong since news of their wedding in Bali, Indonesia, was carried by the media in March.

Dressed in a lime green gown by Khoon Hooi, the 29-year-old said she did not intend to keep the good news a secret from the media who had been strong supporters of her career but preferred to have a little more privacy on her special day.

“I will not be who I am today if it wasn’t for you, my media friends who have been supporting me,” said Chia at a thank you party and wedding reception for members of the media at the Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Grand entrance: The newlyweds walking into the ballroom accompanied by two bagpipers and a celebrity lineup of bridesmaids.

She added that she had gained about 2kgs during her 10-day honeymoon trip to Gold Coast, Australia, which she truly enjoyed but admitted she missed her job very much as well.

“My husband wanted to stay there longer so that I can have a break from work and a proper rest but I was already missing my work so much after 10 days,” said Amber who already has plans to start a family with Wong soon but assured the media that she would continue on with her job as it was what she loved doing.

The newlyweds came dressed to the night’s Noce Verte theme, which means The Green Wedding in French, an idea conceptualised by wedding planner Bill Bora.

Bora said it was a trend now to go green hence the thought of hosting a green wedding and serving healthy food came about.

“It took us about a month to prepare but we are fortunate to have worked with great people from Nas Great Idea who came in with fresh flowers and decorations for the ballroom as well as the specially prepared Eiffel Tower cake by Yomie Bakery,” he said.

The party started with the couple making a grand entrance accompanied by two bagpipers and Chia’s celebrity friends who turned up as her bridesmaids in dresses designed by Ezuwan Ismail.

Going French: The couple cuting their specially made Eiffel Tower wedding cake during the reception.

They then celebrated Ford Supermodel of the World Malaysia 2009 winner Kelly Jagan’s birthday before the couple took their seats on the stage together with Rafflesia Pearl Centre director Winnie Sin and managing director Sin Cheang Loong, who played host for the night.

Actress Diana Danielle and Ash sang a mix of Malay and Mandarin numbers to kickstart the wedding just before dinner was served to the 110 guests.

For appetisers, guests were served the lemony broccoli flower salad and Crab Timbale with Green Roe. Baby Leek and Black Truffle Jelly and the Prawn Ball Gazpacho of Green Tomato and Pimiento Julienne.

They then moved on with a Green Pea Soup with Spinach Tuile and the main course of Steamed Cod wrapped in Lettuce Leaves served with Edamame, Green Asparagus, Preserved Potato Cube, Roasted Shallots topped with the Crustacean Green Aromatic Herbs ‘smoothie’ Sauce.

As guests dined on the specially prepared cuisine, Chia’s friends Suki Low, Diana Danielle, Alyah and Ning Baizura continued to render guests with popular songs such as Celine Dion’s I’m Alive and Teresa Teng’s The Moon Represents My Heart.

The night ended on a sweet note of Green Tea and Pistacchio Macaroon, Fresh Mint Coulis and Sweet Basil Ice Cream as well as a slice of Carrot Cake and Green Apple Jelly.
