A Peek Into Lim's Home

Lim Goh Tong: Awards & Achievements

GENTING HIGHLANDS: Gohtong Villa, the double-storey residence of the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, is on a hill about halfway up Genting Highlands away from the bustle of the famous casino and hotel chain that he founded.

Sitting on a huge piece of land, the villa, which has an elevator, cannot be seen from the road below. A 2km long road leads up to Lim’s private sanctuary.

Family gallery: Pictures of Lim and family members are displayed on the wall across the living room located at the first floor of his house.
Three vacant plots of land just outside the villa have been converted into temporary car parks for VIPs.

Opposite the main entrance of the 1,860-square-metre bungalow, which was completed in 1998, is a sprawling garden with neatly trimmed hedges and a cornucopia of flora and trees. Directly below the garden is a basement car park, which is big enough for 20-30 cars.

The imposing villa, which faces the north-west, offers visitors a view of Genting Hotel to the north and a beautiful vista of the surrounding hillside.

The ground floor is being used for the wake.

Feel of luxury: Resorts World public relations and communications senior vice-president Datuk Anthony Yeo showing the living room.
Beige dominates the colour scheme of the house, which has a Chinese-style interior with two flights of staircases leading to the first floor.

At the first staircase, two pictures are hung opposite each other, one depicting the sunset and the other the sunrise at Genting Highlands. This is followed by Lim’s portrait on the left.

Upon reaching the first floor, a large picture of Lim together with former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad hangs on the right. This was taken during Lim’s 80th birthday on Aug 27, 1997. Three large crystal chandeliers provide the lighting on the first floor.

Memorabilia and more: Lim’s collection of jade statues, antique vases and other items are kept in a room on the first floor.
Beyond this picture is the Lim’s family gallery framed by two marble pillars decorated with golden leaves. There are numerous family pictures and various pictures of Lim receiving awards.

Another portrait of Lim, which was given by his employees during Genting’s 25th anniversary, dominates this gallery.

The family gallery also leads to a balcony, which is said to have been where Lim liked to spend most of his time, hoping to catch a glimpse of a yellow koi in the fishpond below.

Located opposite the balcony is the living room with a large settee. Behind this is a room showcasing the various items he had received throughout his illustrious life.

The entire house is also decorated with Chinese paintings, vases and a pair of Chinese calligraphic works. There is also a pavilion, swimming pool and a greenhouse that can be seen outside the house.
