to all my friends, relatives, bloggers and those who know meToday is 'chor yat' the 1st day of Chinese New Year where all Chinese families will be on their 'ang ang" red colour clothing, home deco and even undergarments for the 'ong' start of the new year. I have invited my FUK LUK SAU into my house and here I have practiced the welcoming of the good year on the eve of the NEW YEAR.
These auspicious decorations can be seen hanging here and there during Chinese New Year with words of good meaning and greetings which are sweet to say, hear and receive. Not forgetting the important ang pau, of course.
Chinese New Year Eve Prayers
The '3 lifes' that is a must to offer to our ancestors on every prayers Chinese New Year Eve falls on 17th Feb 2007, Saturday a day to pray ancestors in the morning before ushering to the new year the following day.
Traditionally, the son of the family inherited the tasks of this prayers from death anniversary prayers, ching ming, hungry ghosts festival and the new year eve prayers. But, the daughter-in-law (that's me) got to make markings in my new calendar so as not to miss these 'm a r k e d ' days. From hunting for roast duck, pork and chicken and other dishes is quite time taxing. However, I am now more experienced now in ordering from a Restaurant and just get the chicken steamed myself. The rest of the dishes are plain favourite foods of my MIL and FIL. After a hard days work and effort put in, a peace of mind is engraved that a task of rememberance to our ancestors has been performed willingly but if I failed or forget to do so, it will be flashing in my mind till the next prayers. As what we chinese says, you pray "ah kong, ah moh, got por poi" (grandpa, grandma got blessed you)
